The Star Lab The Discovery CLC has the latest Star Lab projection system and giant inflatable dome - one of only a handful in the country. It holds a class of pupils at a time. It can be used for science, geography, 360 degree projection and literacy (e.g., poetry writing).

Booking classes into the CLC The Star Lab is used in the centre for pupils most often as part of a varied activity workshop day. For example as part of the Year 2 Christmas Workshop, Year 5/6 Earth and Space Workshop, and Year 7/9 Workshops supporting the National Curriculum. The Lab can also be used for any year group in a variety of different ways and for targeted groups such as special needs, or gifted and talented. To book workshops (available only to Wirral Schools and Youth Groups) phone 0151 641 8480 and ask for Alex Ingham.

Booking the Star Lab The Star Lab is available for loan to Wirral Schools and Public Organisations following training of staff to manage the equipment and make the presentation. A CLC member of staff can make the presentations for you at a cost of £250 per day. Other organisations outside of the Wirral Authority can borrow the Star Lab at £100 per day. The cost of a CLC member of staff to make the presentations is the same. Travel expenses and overnight stays are chargeable.

To book the star lab please contact the centre on 0151 641 8480 and ask for Alex Findlay. The Lab is booked out a week, or part week at a time. Schools and organisations collect and return the equipment and the beginning and end of the loan period unless you wish to buy in a CLC member of staff. In this case training is not required and the equipment will be brought to your location.

Insurance Within the local authority the Star Lab is insured under the CLC when out on loan or in transit. Outside of the local authority it is covered while a CLC member of staff is using it. Schools/Organisations outside of the local authority and borrowing the Staf Lab have to make their own arrangements.
